Maryland Statewide Farm Energy Audit Program
A new program is now available for all agricultural producers in Maryland! The Maryland Statewide Farm Energy Audit Program is a new program based on a successful program run originally for Maryland’s eastern shore and western counties. This program helps farmers reduce their energy costs through farm energy audits and incentives for qualifying energy saving projects.
Incentives are available to all Maryland producers who install any qualifying piece of energy efficient equipment. Producers do not need to have an energy audit completed in order to apply for this program. However, farm energy audits can uncover how much money can be saved by improving the energy efficiency of your farm. Those who choose to receive an audit will pay just $300.
The program will have incentives available of $0.06 per kilowatt hour of electricity you save for any qualifying lighting projects, $0.08 per kilowatt hour saved for all other eligible electric projects, and $1.50 per gallon of propane saved for any eligible propane projects. The incentives cannot exceed 50% of the total project cost. For more information, contact Corey Conant with EnSave: (800) 732-1399 or coreyc@ensave.com.
The Maryland Agricultural and Resource-Based Industry Development Corporation (MARBIDCO) also has grants and low-interest loans available. Please contact Steve McHenry, Executive Director, at (410) 267-6807, smchenry@marbidco.org.
Grants and loans are available through the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP). Contact Bruce Weaver, Business and Commercial Program Specialist with USDA Rural Development at (302) 857-3625 or bruce.weaver@de.usda.gov.
Agricultural producers in Maryland are eligible for this program. This is a first come first served program. The program will operate while funds last. Other restrictions may apply.
