Message from the CEO
" As the first generation off the family farm, I am deeply committed to serving America's agriculture. Our mission is simple yet powerful: to do our very best—everyday—to support producers with solutions that strengthen their operations, make them more resilient, and better prepare them for the future..."

Farm Energy Assessments
EnSave’s USDA NRCS-approved energy assessments (CEMA 228), sometimes referred to as energy audits, identify opportunities to reduce energy use by 10% to 45%. Energy assessments are essential for securing funding and reducing costs, which directly affects the bottom line.
With over 10,000 assessments completed across all 50 states and Puerto Rico, we deliver detailed reports with cost-effective recommendations and payback periods. Assessments analyze energy-consuming systems like lighting, ventilation, HVAC, building envelope, and milk cooling, prioritizing upgrades for maximum savings. By focusing on practical, data-driven solutions, we enable farmers to enhance profitability while lowering their energy costs.
For example, an assessment on a 4-house poultry farm identified energy efficiency measures saving 25,865 kWh and 12,300 gallons of propane annually. This equates to $23,559.75 in savings annually at 15 cents per kWh and $1.60 per gallon of propane.
Another example is an assessment on a 120-cow dairy farm that identified energy efficiency measures saving 35,010 kWh annually equating to $8,038 in savings annually at 22 cents per kWh. Our vendor-neutral approach ensures unbiased advice, helping farmers access federal programs like REAP and EQIP, which cover up to 25% and 75% of project costs respectively.
Renewable Energy Assessments
EnSave provides comprehensive feasibility studies for renewable energy projects, such as solar PV, to support informed investment decisions. Our independent third-party reviews evaluate vendor specifications and energy generation potential, meeting USDA REAP requirements for grants covering up to 25% of costs.
We analyze farm-specific energy profiles, site conditions, and financial goals to deliver reports outlining project viability and ROI. With over 30 years of experience, we’ve helped numerous farms secure REAP funding, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and greenhouse gas emissions.
Our vendor-neutral stance ensures unbiased evaluations, free from manufacturer affiliations. By combining technical expertise with practical insights, we empower farmers to transition to alternative energy, enhancing economic resilience and environmental stewardship. These assessments pave the way for long-term energy savings.

Technical Assistance Assessments
Unlike our comprehensive energy assessments, which take a whole-farm approach, Technical Assistance Assessments focus on specific projects or measures. Using our extensive farm energy database, we identify savings in systems like lighting, ventilation, HVAC, building envelopes, and milk cooling—prioritizing upgrades for maximum impact. These assessments are ideal for farms that already know which improvements they want to pursue.
Our team of professional engineers and certified energy managers ensures these assessments are practical and customized to each operation’s needs. For example, dairy farms benefit from targeted upgrades in milk processing; indoor cannabis cultivation facilities and year-round greenhouses gain efficiency through advanced lighting control systems; seasonal greenhouses optimize supplemental lighting; and row crop farmers reduce costs and emissions by switching irrigation systems from diesel to electric. By reducing energy waste and emissions, our plans enhance financial and environmental outcomes.

EnSave Management Services (EMS)
EnSave Management Services (EMS) serves as your procurement agent and project manager, streamlining energy efficiency projects from scoping to commissioning.
We select cost-effective technologies like lighting, ventilation, or solar, ensuring maximum profitability. With over 30 years of experience, our unbiased technical analysis saves time and optimizes returns. EMS secures funding through state and utility programs as well as federal initiatives such as REAP and EQIP, which can cover up to 25% and 75% of project costs, respectively.
Our vendor-neutral approach ensures solutions are selected to maximize your bottom line, free from manufacturer bias. We manage the entire implementation process to ensure each project achieves its energy-saving objectives and delivers measurable cost reductions.
Grant Writing & Management
EnSave’s grant writing and management services help producers secure funding through programs such as REAP and other grant opportunities. We develop compelling applications and provide strategic guidance, drawing on more than 30 years of collaboration with USDA, state energy offices, and utilities.
Our team has supported farmers in obtaining grants for renewable energy systems and energy-efficient equipment such as LED lighting and variable speed drives. By simplifying complex application processes, ensuring compliance, and managing implementation, we maximize the likelihood of success and ensure projects deliver meaningful energy savings. As one farmer put it, “EnSave made a complex application easy and guided me through the entire grant process.”
